Planning where to stay in Da Nang? Vietnam’s beach city has three very different bases: the long sandy strip of My Khe Beach, the city side along the Han River with the Dragon Bridge, and the secluded resorts of the Son Tra Peninsula and Non Nuoc. Distances are short and taxis are cheap, so the choice is mostly about the holiday you want: beach and cafés, city food and nightlife, or a resort you never need to leave. This guide compares Da Nang’s areas, with what each is like, how far it is from the airport, and hotels to consider for every budget.
Last updated: 29 October 2026. Prices are indicative; Da Nang is cheapest in the rainy season (about September–December, when storms are possible) and busiest from spring to August.
Quick answer
- First time in Da Nang? Stay at My Khe Beach, around An Thuong: beach, restaurants and cafés within walking distance.
- City life and food? Stay near the Han River and the Dragon Bridge.
- Luxury resort? Son Tra Peninsula or Non Nuoc Beach.
- Visiting Hoi An too? Split your stay, or stay at Non Nuoc, halfway between Da Nang and Hoi An.
- Airport distance? About 10–20 minutes by taxi or Grab to most areas.
How we pick: we compare neighbourhoods on transport links, walkability, noise and price, and only name hotels that appear in several independent, recent guides or are well-known landmark properties. We give price levels rather than exact rates, because rates change daily. More about how we work.
Which area of Da Nang is best? A quick comparison

| Downtown (Hai Chau) | Local food, budget, markets | Local, traffic, cheap eats | $–$$ | about 10 min |

Da Nang neighbourhoods in detail
My Khe Beach & An Thuong (Mỹ Khê)
My Khe is the long, wide sandy beach on Da Nang’s eastern shore, swimmable for much of the year and lined with seafood restaurants and hotels along Vo Nguyen Giap road. Just behind it, the An Thuong area is where most international visitors and longer-stay travellers base themselves, with cafés, bars, brunch spots and small hotels.
Best for: first-time visitors, beach lovers, families and digital nomads.
Watch out for: beachfront rooms cost more; traffic on the beach road is heavy, and sidewalks are narrow or blocked, so it’s less walkable than it looks on a map.
Getting around: taxis and Grab are cheap and quick; the Han River and downtown are about 10 minutes away.
Where to stay in My Khe Beach & An Thuong:
- Budget: Simple local hotels a few streets back from the beach, such as Sea My Khe Hotel, often cost under $25.
- Mid-range: A La Carte Da Nang Beach, a beachfront hotel with a popular rooftop pool.
- Luxury: Pullman Danang Beach Resort at the southern end of the beach strip, and TIA Wellness Resort, an adults-only spa resort.

Han River & Dragon Bridge (sông Hàn)
The Han River splits Da Nang between the downtown west bank and the beach side to the east. Its banks are lined with riverside promenades, rooftop bars and hotels with views of the bridges, including the Dragon Bridge, which breathes fire and water on weekend evenings. It’s the city’s liveliest base.
Best for: travellers who care more about food, bars and city views than the beach.
Watch out for: noise on weekend nights, and no beach on your doorstep (it’s a 5–10 minute ride).
Getting around: taxis or Grab to the beach, the airport and the Marble Mountains; the night market and Han Market are walkable from the west bank.
Where to stay in Han River & Dragon Bridge:
- Budget: Memory Hostel, a well-rated hostel with dorms and private rooms.
- Mid-range: Grandvrio City Da Nang and other river-view hotels on Bach Dang street.
- Upscale: Novotel Danang Premier Han River, a tall hotel with river views.
Downtown (Hai Chau) (Hải Châu)
Da Nang’s west-bank downtown is where locals live and work: Han Market, the pink cathedral, street-food stalls and cheap noodle shops. It’s the best area for authentic, inexpensive food, and the closest to the airport.
Best for: budget travellers, foodies and short stopovers.
Watch out for: traffic and street noise early and late, and no beach access.
Getting around: the airport is about 10 minutes away; My Khe is 10–15 minutes by taxi.
Where to stay in Downtown:
- Budget: Family-run hotels around Han Market, many under $20 a night.
- Mid-range: Business-style hotels near the riverfront and Le Duan street.

Son Tra Peninsula (Sơn Trà)
The Son Tra Peninsula rises north-east of the city, a forested nature reserve with winding coastal roads, the giant Lady Buddha statue at Linh Ung Pagoda and hidden coves. A handful of luxury resorts are tucked into its hillsides with private beaches.
Best for: honeymooners, couples and anyone who wants a secluded luxury resort.
Watch out for: isolation: restaurants, shops and the city are a 15–20 minute drive away, so you’ll pay for taxis each time you leave.
Getting around: taxi or Grab; most resorts run shuttles to the city.
Where to stay in Son Tra Peninsula:
- Luxury: InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, one of Vietnam’s most famous resorts, on its own bay.
- Upscale: Premier Village Danang Resort, with villas at the foot of the peninsula.
Non Nuoc Beach (Non Nước)
South of My Khe, the beach continues past the Marble Mountains to Non Nuoc, where large resorts with big pools and kids’ clubs line the shore. It’s quieter than My Khe and about halfway to Hoi An, which makes it a good base if you want both.
Best for: families, resort holidays and travellers combining Da Nang with Hoi An.
Watch out for: there isn’t much outside the resorts; you’ll need taxis to eat out.
Getting around: about 20–25 minutes to the city and the airport; about 25–30 minutes to Hoi An’s old town.
Where to stay in Non Nuoc Beach:
- Upscale: Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa and Meliá Danang Beach Resort, both large beachfront resorts with family facilities.
How far is the airport from each area?
Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is unusually close to the city. Taxis and Grab are the easiest way in; use the official taxi queue or book Grab in the app to avoid overcharging.

| Son Tra resorts | about 25–30 min | Book the resort transfer for the hillside roads |
| Hoi An | about 40–50 min | Pre-book a car or the resort shuttle |
Which base is best for day trips from Da Nang?
| Day trip | Distance | Best base |
|---|---|---|
| Hoi An Ancient Town | about 40–50 min by car | Non Nuoc or My Khe (south end) |
| Marble Mountains | about 15–20 min | Non Nuoc or My Khe |

| Son Tra Peninsula and Lady Buddha | about 20 min | My Khe or Son Tra |
| Hai Van Pass and Lang Co | about 1 hour | Downtown or My Khe |
Most travellers book a private car or a Grab for day trips; it’s affordable when shared by two to four people, and drivers wait while you visit.
How do you get around Da Nang?
- Grab (cars and motorbikes) is the easiest way: fixed prices shown in the app, no haggling, and card payment.
- Metered taxis from the larger companies are also fine; agree to use the meter before you set off.
- Renting a motorbike is popular, but you need a valid licence for Vietnam and travel insurance that covers riding.
- Walking works along the beach promenade and the riverfront, less so on busy main roads.
When is the best time to stay in Da Nang?
- February–May: pleasant temperatures and calm seas; a good time for most travellers.
- June–August: hot and sunny, peak season for families and domestic holidays; book early.
- September–December: the rainy season, with possible storms and rough seas, especially in October and November. Prices drop; choose flexible bookings.
How to choose the right Da Nang hotel
- Beachfront vs one street back: rooms a few minutes’ walk from the sand cost much less than beachfront ones, and the walk is short.
- Pools matter in the rainy season and when sea flags are red; check pool size and opening hours.
- Breakfast: Vietnamese hotel breakfasts are often generous and good value; compare rates with and without it.
- Read recent reviews for noise: construction and karaoke can be issues in fast-growing areas.
- Combining with Hoi An: two or three nights in each is a popular split, or stay at Non Nuoc in between.
